You may think that the busiest part of farming would be mid-summer but that would be incorrect. Right now is the most hectic part of my year, or it at least shares that honor with the month preceding fall pickup. This is when the heavy marketing work of the cold season collides with getting the farm production back in full swing again.
Along with that we have six kids that seem to sign up for multiple teams of every sport available all at the same time. Big thanks to my wife Liz for all her heavy lifting in that area.
2018 is looking great and we have got some exciting things on the horizon.
Bennett Farms is looking into selling at the South Bend Farmers Market in the near future. We're putting it all together now and will post about it thru Facebook when that happens.
We are now also on Instagram. Head on over there and follow us @BennettFarmsMichigan It's going to be used as a platform for letting our community see some behind the scenes photos of farm life that you might not get on Facebook. That's the plan anyway.
Watch for a Facebook post coming soon about Bennett Farms shirts. Our supporters are great and are proud of where they buy their food. We took notice of a small but vocal group asking for the shirts that they have seen Liz and I wearing. Did I mention they are essentially going to be free to Bennett Farms customers? I'll explain in the Facebook post. Keep an eye out.
Turkeys! We are considering doing a small batch of turkeys in 2018 for fresh pickup the Sunday before thanksgiving. Watch for a Facebook post on that as well.
If we get good feedback it will get the green light. If our chicken is this awesome imagine what we could do with a turkey that is soaking up Bennett Farms sunshine for 4 months!
As always, raised on green pastures, non-GMO and antibiotic-free.
We will also begin farrowing (birthing) pigs on the farm this year. We kept a handful of females over the winter along with one lucky male pig. So that's another component of our operation that is in expansion.
I'll leave you with this.
If you're on the fence about becoming a customer, please give us a try. You will be glad you did. I know we have outstanding products that are better than anything you can find in town.... But I stand behind YOU! If ever you are not 100% happy. I will work with you to change that. I care more about my customers, than I do about dollars.
That's a promise.
